Frigiliana
Frigiliana is situated 6 km inland from Nerja. And is probably the
prettiest village in Andalusia. The village center is at an
altitude of 435 meters above sea level. Frigiliana is of ancient Moorish origin,
some of the streets are decorated with mosaics which recount episodes of the
towns history. This village is one of the best-preserved in the region,
and has received many prizes for its beauty and excellent
preservation. Its narrow, steeply-winding stony streets along with the
vast amount plants and flowers adorn the whitewashed buildings. The San
Antonio church built in the 16th century stands in-front of the Plaza. The
church has a large clock-tower, a nave and two aisles, with Mudejar
covered ceilings and three 17th century paintings. Frigiliana also
produces its own local wine "Vino de Frigiliana" a very strong sherry
like drink.
Should you choose to visit the village remember your camera, there are many
spectacular views on the way up to the village along, with many pretty
courtyards and alley ways to photograph. Top tip wear sensible shoes as
the cobbles are very shiny and slippery in places.
