Torrox
Torrox has two parts Torrox Costa (coast) and
Torrox Pueblo (village). Torrox Costa stretches alone the coast taking in
El Morche. The beaches are broad and very long and have no coves unlike
Nerja. There is a very nice promenade with many bars and restaurants along
it, and is just as nice in the winter months to walk along or just sit at a bar
and have a coffee.
Settlement around Torrox goes back to the Phoenician colonisation, there
is an important archaeological site here the Roman town at El Faro, known
as Clavicum. This settlement dates back to the 1st - 4th centuries.
There are Roman baths, ovens and dwellings.
The old part Torrox Pueblo is slightly inland and has many old buildings, at the
top of the village there is a Plaza surrounded by bars and cafes, also a
Municipal market selling fresh fish, meat and land
produce.
